Current Private/Public Sector Projects

Fundy Quay (former Saint John Coast Guard Site)

Located in the heart of the waterfront, this six acre site will be the location of a $100+million redevelopment project that will transform Saint John and the waterfront.   The proposed development will link the site to the current indoor pedway system and will include a hotel, condominiums, an educational facility, office, commercial and retail spaces as well as public spaces.

Harbour Passage Eco-logical Hubs

In partnership with and through the generosity of TD Bank ($500,000), Saint John Waterfront Development is designing and constructing three (3) ecological hubs along Harbour Passage.  These themed interpretative nodes (hubs) consist of a variety of educational and informative elements (2D and 3D) items which will highlight the natural attributes of the Bay of Fundy and the Saint John Harbour. click here.

Loyalist Plaza refurbishment

Saint John Waterfront Foundation Inc. was created to lead fundraising initiatives near and on the Saint John waterfront.  The first initiative of the Foundation is the Loyalist Plaza “Make Your Mark on History” Capital Campaign.   The estimated cost to redevelop the Loyalist Plaza North market Slip area is $9 million and the City of Saint John has committed $3.4 million conditional upon the Foundation raising the remaining funds.  The Foundation works closely with the City of Saint John and Saint John Development Corporation.  Click here.

Waterfront Projects

Public projects on the waterfront are making a significant difference to the landscape of the Inner Harbour, the uptown and the attitudes of the people in Saint John.  Creating world-class public spaces along Saint John's waterfront are a key component of the Waterfront Development Plan.  Public projects such as those listed below spur new construction in the area which will, in turn, increase both the tax base and the urban core population.

The beautification and restoration of Saint John's historic waterfront is going a long way to create a fundamental change in Saint John's image.  Current efforts are concentrated on the following waterfront projects:

At times, these projects or segments of are managed by a volunteer Working Group consisting of local citizens and stakeholders who are passionate about the rejuvenation and renewal of our city and our waterfront.
